IT IS TIME, FRIENDS! Season 5 has offially begun. Don’t read this if you haven’t watched the season premier, for the web is dark and full of spoilers. (Or do, I don’t care.) I think I’m going to write about a look we saw in each episode and see how that works out. OK? I know the first 4 episodes leaked but I’m just going to watch 1 episode a week. Here we go. Let’s talk about Cersei. Not a good time for the queen regent… With Joffrey and Tywin both dead, Myrcella in Dorne, Tommen getting married to Margaery, Tyrion disappeared and plenty of Tyrell sharks in the water, WTF are Cersei and Jaime going to do?? But more importantly, who looks this good at a funeral!?
If you’re interested in Lena Headey’s organic skincare routine, I posted a breakdown of her favorite products HERE. I have just started using Tracie Martyn Amla Purifying Cleanser, because when the queen speaks, I listen. Warning: this stuff is not cheap. It does however, contain exfoliating acids (that I’m obsessed with since I’m nearing 30), which is presumably how Cersei maintains her youthful glow. Definitely a good skin cleanser to keep in your royal arsenal.
As usual, Cersei’s makeup is all about the brows. You can’t give a good side eye without killer eyebrows. See exhibit A:
Unfortunately I’m rather challenged in the brow-department, so I need some help with that. Enter: Hourglass Brow Sculpting Pencil. The powder/wax combination and slanted tip that doesn’t need to be sharpened are perfect to create a serious but not cartoonish statement brow. If you suck at shaping your brows, Anastasia Beverly Hills has a set of brow stencils that include a high and a full arch of Cersei-like proportions. Add to that a subtle swipe of NARS Ashes To Ashes eyeshadow (a shimmery violet based brown) and Armani’s Eyes To Kill Mascara for voluminous lashes, and we’re in business. Now keep practising a side eye that strikes fear into the hearts of your enemies.
As her beloved brother once said, Cersei’s best qualities are the love she bears for her children, and her cheekbones. While I can’t help you in the kids department, the cheekbones can definitely be enhanced with a subtle highlighter like my favorite, the RMS Beauty Living Lumizier. Dab some of this super sheer, pearly stuff onto your cheekbones for a luminescent effect. I also love putting this on my eyelids for a bit of radiance.
Cersei’s hair is always on point, and there is no way she’s maintaining those waist-length, golden locks without some fancy products. (You may remember my Lannister Luxe post from a while ago.) Say hello to Oribe 24K Gold Pomade, which conditions, adds shine and golden highlights to a lackluster mane. (Warning: this may be a bit OTT for daily use but definitely a great way to add some Lannister gold to your ‘do.)
I’d imagine The Great Sept of Baelor to smell heavily of incense, partly to conceal the decaying corpse of Tywin Lannister. A great resin-based scent is Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab’s Cathedral, but the most sophisticated incense perfume I have encountered is Jo Malone Incense & Cedrat Cologne Intense (available online in June but already in stores). The blend of smoky incense, elemi, lemon, pepper, cypress, labdanum, and benzoin is dark and funeral-appropriate but sexy enough to wear on a date with your, um… brother?
