Last night, I was one of the lucky few who attended the Game of Thrones premiere at the EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam. 150+ fans were invited in addition to HBO staff, so it was only a small and relatively low-profile gathering for a premiere. Unfortunately no actors were present, even though at least one cast member lives here (perhaps the red priestess had some black magic business elsewhere). Upon arrival guests were given the opportunity to have a drink, and usurp the throne (see my 5 seconds of fame below) before the screening. When everyone was seated, the CEOs of HBO Netherlands and the Imagine Film Festival introduced the episode, and a live rendition of the theme song and The Rains of Castamere(!) was played by students of the Amsterdam conservatory. Then, finally, it was time for episode 401: TWO SWORDS!
I don’t want to give too much away even though I’m sure many of you have seen it by now, but the episode was great and well worth the wait. I’m especially excited about the arrival of Oberyn Martell in King’s Landing, the introduction of the cannibalistic Thenns, and the upcoming royal nuptials of Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell. After the screening, guests went home with an HBO goodie-bag containing either a Game of Thrones mug, iPhone case or bottle-opener. For those of you who couldn’t be there, I have a Stark iPhone 5s case to give away! Leave a comment with your favorite moment of Two Swords and I’ll pick a winner within the next two weeks. You can watch the episode for free on HBO GO this month!
